People who like to stay on a schedule use the built-in Calendar app to keep track of their meetings and other events. They may sometimes even have multiple calendars to separate their personal and professional lives. As is the case with any form of data, your calendars are prone to accidental deletion. What’d you do if you notice that some of your calendar events are missing when you open the app one day?
Well, calendars could get deleted due to various reasons. Sure, the most common reason is the accidental removal of calendars and calendar events. Apart from this, potential issues during a software update can wipe the data off your iPhone. Or, you could lose your calendars if you forget to transfer the data after purchasing a new iPhone. On the bright side, all the calendars and calendar events you’re unable to find on your iPhone can still be recovered.
Whether you lost your calendars due to a corrupted update or you accidentally deleted some events and want to roll back the changes, you can utilize any of the following methods to restore deleted calendars on iPhone.
Method 1: Restore Deleted Calendar from iCloud
In the first method, we’ll take a look at how you can use iCloud to get back deleted calendars on your iPhone. You can retrieve lost and missing calendars in two different ways using iCloud, and it all comes down to your preference and whether or not you have access to a computer.
1.1. Restore Deleted Calendar from iCloud.com
If you have access to a computer at the moment, this might be the quickest way to get back all your deleted calendars on iPhone. Let’s take a look at what you need to do:
Step 1. Head over to iCloud.com using a web browser on your computer. Type in your Apple ID login details and click on the arrow icon to sign in to your account.
Step 2. Once you’re in the iCloud homepage, look for your Apple ID name which is located at the top-right corner of the page. Click on it and choose ‘Account Settings.’
Step 3. On this page, you’ll be able to see your iCloud storage details and list devices. At the bottom of this page, you’ll find the ‘Advanced’ section. Click on ‘Restore Calendars’ located under this.
Step 4. This will bring up a pop-up menu on the screen. Here, you’ll be able to view all your calendar archives. Select the archive prior to the date your calendars got deleted or went missing, and click on ‘Restore’ next to it.
Now, you need to wait for a few seconds, and the selected calendar archive will be restored to your iPhone. You should be able to find your missing events once you launch the Calendar app.
1.2. Restore Deleted Calendar from iCloud Backup
If you don’t have access to a computer, things get slightly more complicated. This method requires you to erase your iPhone and restore it from a previous iCloud backup. Before you proceed, make sure you have fully backed up your iPhone to iCloud prior to the date the calendars were lost or removed.
Step 1. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone. Scroll down and tap on ‘General’ from the settings menu.
Step 2. Next, scroll down to the very bottom of the menu and tap on ‘Reset.’
Step 3. Now, choose ‘Erase All Content and Settings.’ Confirm your action when prompted.
Step 4. When the reset is complete, your device will reboot and take you to the welcome screen as if you’re setting up a new iPhone. Follow the onscreen instructions and once you get to the ‘Apps and Data’ screen, choose ‘Restore from iCloud Backup.’
Your iPhone will take several minutes to restore from the iCloud backup, so keep waiting until the process is complete. Be aware that all the stored data and changes that were made to the iPhone post your last iCloud backup will be permanently lost in the process.
Method 2: Restore Deleted Calendar with iPhone Calendar Recovery Software
This method can be handy for people who do not rely on Apple’s iCloud service for backing up their iPhone data. However, you need to have access to a computer to install this iPhone data recovery software called UltData which is developed by Tenorshare. It’s available for both Windows and Mac.
Step 1. Head over to Tenorshare’s website and download UltData on your PC or Mac. Once installed, connect your iPhone to the computer using the USB to Lightning cable that came in the box. Launch the software and choose ‘Recover Data from iOS Devices’ from the main menu.
Step 2. Now, you’ll be able to choose the type of data you want to recover using the software. Simply check the box next to ‘Calendar & Attachment’ as shown below and leave everything else unchecked. Click on ‘Scan’ to proceed further.
Step 3. The scan could take several minutes to complete, so please be patient. Once done, you will be able to see the list of all calendars that can be recovered. Select the deleted calendars by checking the box and click on ‘Recover to PC.’
Once recovered, the calendars can be restored to your iPhone either manually or by using the software. UltData makes the entire process pretty straightforward. Read our UltData Review here.
Method 3: Restore Deleted Calendar from iTunes Backup
Most iPhone users who don’t pay for iCloud rely on iTunes to back up their data. This technique is for those users who use iTunes and don’t want to install any additional software to restore deleted calendars. It’s similar to the iCloud backup restoration method, except that you’ll use a local backup stored on your computer. Once again, only proceed with this if you’re certain that you backed up your iPhone prior to the date the calendars were deleted or lost.
Step 1. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed. Connect your iPhone to the computer using the included USB to Lightning cable and launch iTunes. Now, click on the iPhone icon located below the menu bar as shown below.
Step 2. This will take you to the device summary section within iTunes. Here, under the Backups section on the right pane, click on ‘Restore Backup.’
Step 3. Now, you will be prompted to choose the backup that you want to restore your iPhone from. Make the selection and click on ‘Restore.’
iTunes will prompt you to turn off Find My on your iPhone before you’re allowed to restore the data stored in it. To disable it for the time being, head over to Settings -> Apple ID -> Find My on your iPhone.
Keep your iPhone connected to the computer and wait for iTunes to complete the restoration process. Once done, you’ll be able to find all the lost calendars and events within the Calendar app like they were never deleted in the first place. Do keep in mind that all the data that were added to your iPhone after this particular backup will be lost during the process, so move any important files that you may have somewhere safe.
From now on, you don’t need to panic when you lose or accidentally delete your calendars and calendar events. As you can see, there are multiple different ways to restore missing calendar events on your iPhone. It’s just easier with a computer since you can recover lost calendars without having to erase your iPhone using iCloud.com or a third-party software such as UltData. In the end, it boils down to personal preference.
